9×9 goal sheets with deadlines and history

A 9×9 goal sheet you’ll actually come back to.

Put one goal in the middle, the eight things it depends on around it, and eight concrete steps for each. Give them deadlines, track what’s done, and keep every change.

Free to start. You need an account (email and password). On Free, what you write in a sheet stays on this device.

Free: up to 5 sheets on this device · Pro (coming soon): ¥380 a month for sync and history

Overall progress: 38 percent complete

High-school pitcher sheet. Center goal: Go pro. Eight categories: Fitness, Velocity, Control, Pitches, Mindset, Food, Sleep, School. 17 of 45 entries complete.

1 central goal · 8 category goals · 64 strategies

You may have seen this sheet on paper.

The 9×9 goal sheet became widely known through the one Shohei Ohtani filled in as a high-school student. mandaragrid is the same format, plus the things paper can’t do: deadlines, progress, and a change history.

What is a Mandala Chart?

A 3×3 grid of 3×3 grids. The middle cell holds your goal, the eight cells around it hold what that goal depends on, and each of those becomes the center of its own block with eight concrete steps — 64 in all. “Mandala Chart” is a registered trademark of the Mandala Chart Association in Japan. mandaragrid is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Shohei Ohtani.

How it works

One goal, eight areas,sixty-four steps.

Big goals stay vague, or turn into a to-do list with no shape. The 9×9 keeps the goal, what it depends on, and the next steps on one screen.

A nine by nine goal grid for the marathon training sheet showing only the center goal — every category and cell is still empty

Write the goal in the middle.

One sentence for the result you want — not a task.

The same grid with all eight category names filled in and every cell still empty

Name the eight things it depends on.

What has to be true for the goal to happen? Those become the eight category goals around it.

The same grid fully filled in, with all eight categories and their eight strategies each complete

Break each one into eight steps.

Each category gets its own 3×3 block, so you end up with 64 concrete strategies.

You don’t have to fill all 64. Empty cells are fine.

Coming back

Open it and know where you are.

You shouldn’t have to re-read everything each time. Home shows the sheet you were in, what’s due, and what changed, so you can pick up in a few seconds.

Changing the plan

Change the plan. Keep the history.

Plans change over a year. Move a deadline, rewrite a step, even replace the goal. History keeps each version, so you can see what changed and go back.

Deadlines stay on the goal they belong to
Progress is counted across the whole 9×9
Each meaningful change is listed with a date

The long run

Made to be used for years.

Goals take time, so the app has to stay around. That means a narrow scope, prices you can predict, no advertising built on your goals, and a way to take your data out.

Narrow on purposeWe won’t turn this into a general project manager.
